Kewpies!

Creepy Japanese kewpie!

Possible Projects

I have been struggling on deciding what I want to do for this project. There are so many possible potentials! I have noticed, in past film/art classes, that I sometimes have difficulty keeping focus on one specific project. That is why I really need to decide on something concrete pronto!

1) Kewpie dolls in egg shells. For this project I would create my own egg shells (large), make about 4 or so (maybe more). I would want them to be hanging from the ceiling (if this is even possible). This way the shadows would look super awesome. (maybe project something on the eggshells??) The kewpies (or baby like creature hybrid that I can create for the project) will be a projected image (only half of their bodies would be showing). It would appear as if they are in the eggshells. When filming them, I would use stop-motion animation to create unfluid(can't think of the word!) movement. I would also be interested in including audio (maybe some old science soundtrack about reproduction or something.) The audio could be the babies talking/crying (or saying bizarre things) or it could be a random noise. Possible problems: Could I technically pull it off? Could I make the eggshells perfect?

2) Rotten dinner. I am not positive how I would pull off this project but I think it would be neat to create an illusion of a very fancy/yummy dinner and juxtapose that with a projection of really disgusting food items (not even edible for the most part!) An example of this could be a stuffed possum with guts coming out of its mouth (this image would show after the viewer sees the delicious dinner plate: like a steaming turkey right out of the oven). Possible problems with this project: It might be difficult to create this elaborate grotesque dinner menu on film. How could I make it appear 3d?

3) Scare the hebejeebies out of everyone! I am fascinated with the idea/theme of fear and would love to make at least one project in this class that deals with this aspect. The only concrete idea I have for this project is that I want to use strobe lights. I think when used correctly they can create a super eerie atmosphere. The installation would be set up in a way were each person had to enter the space individually (to further create the scare aspect). I am not positive yet what I would want the scary/grotesque subject matter to be. I do not want the project to come off as being cheesy or anything that one would imagine a crappy Halloween maze would be. Would using audio be a key aspect for this project?
